Target Overview | Pectic polysaccharide, also known as Pectin, is a structural acidic heteropolysaccharide rich in galacturonic acid. It almost presents in most primary cell walls and are particularly abundant in the non-woody parts of terrestrial plants. Pectin is a natural part of human diet, but it has little contribution to nutrition. During human digestion, pectin combines with cholesterol in the gastrointestinal tract to slow down the absorption of glucose by capturing carbohydrates. Pectin is a kind of soluble dietary fiber. Pectin has been shown to increase the incidence rate of diabetes in non obese diabetic (NOD) mice. |
