Antibodies, also named as immunoglobulins (Ig), are glycoproteins produced by the immune system that mainly responsible for the response to pathogenic antigens (bacteria, virus, toxins, tumor antigen, etc.) to protect the host against infections and some disorders. These antibodies are generally classified into five isotypes in humans: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgE, and IgD, each of which has different structure(s), properties and special functions. The emergence and evolution of hybridoma technology and other innovative biotechnologies have pushed the development of IgG monoclonal antibodies to an unprecedented new height due to advantages of easy production, diversity, high affinity, and specificity, etc. Whereas, the development of non-IgG antibodies has not been on track until recent years.
